Films must be student work at the time of production. This means that while the filmmaker must have been a student at the time the film was made, they do not currently have to be studying to submit their film. Films do not have to be the product of assigned course work.

Entrants must be over 18 yrs at time of entry (not at time of production), and must have full legal rights to approve screening of the film in public, including music rights.

Works in Progress

We do not accept works in progress, films must be complete at time of submission.

Submission DVD and exhibition media

Films must be in English or have 'hard' English subtitles. This means the subtitles must be encoded as part of the vision, films with 'soft' subtitles will not be accepted.

Screener DVDs should be Region 0, PAL or NTSC (PAL preferred).
Mark all DVDs with the film title, DVD format (PAL or NTSC) and the films Runtime.

Neat, legible text is very important. We require a plain disc with easy to read text, do not submit a disc with a busy, multi-colored label.

If your film is selected for screening a Quicktime file and press materials will be requested.
We prefer 720P (1280 x 720) Quicktime Movies for screening. However we will discuss appropriate technical specifications in more detail if your film is selected.

If the films dialog and/or narration is not in English the screening version must have 'hard' English subtitles, that is the subtitles must be part of the video file and not provided as a separate .srt or other document.

Stills should be High Quality JPEG format and suitable for inclusion in the festival program and on our website.

The Fine Print

The entrant understands that by submitting a film to the Melbourne International Student Film Festival they are granting approval to International Student Film Festivals (trading as Melbourne International Student Film Festival) to screen the submitted film in public. The entrant also grants the right to publish images from the film in print or online in order to promote the festival now or in future.

The entrant understands and accepts that this is a selective festival and that submission and payment of entry fees in no way guarantees selection by the festival. Furthermore, the entrant understands that if their submission is deemed invalid for any reason, entry fees shall not be refunded. The entrant also understands that this is a competitive festival, and that all judges decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

The entrant confirms that there is no legal impediment that would prevent a public screening of the film. The entrant also declares that all necessary legal rights to the film (including for music) are owned or have been licensed by the filmmaker.
Furthermore, the entrant acknowledges that neither the Melbourne International Student Film Festival nor any of its employees, associates or subsidiaries will be held liable for any lapse on the entrant and/or filmmakers part. The entrant understands and agrees that the Melbourne International Student Film Festival is operating in good faith on the entrants assertion that there is no legal impediment to prevent a public screening.
The entrant will solely and alone bear full legal and financial responsibility for any legal action or litigation arising due to misrepresentation, failure or omission on the entrants part.
